I haven't been listening to a lot of music lately. I got New Surrender in the mail a couple of weeks ago, but that still hasn't made me want to listen to music. I think I just woke up one day and I stopped looking for it. I stopped looking for new sounds, new emotions that songs would stir into the depths of my soul. Maybe music just stopped sounding as good as it used to, or maybe I miss listening to music as if it were just playing in the background, rather than savouring every note, chord and beat until I've memorised its every nuance as I carefully dissect the meaning of every phrase and its arrangement.

Maybe that's it. Nothing's as great when you've memorised everything.

Or maybe I'm just busy.

Sometimes we choose to stay away from things that stir up "real things" to get on with "real life".

Relationships. Songs. Prayer.

I guess if we are too preoccupied to deal with them in a real way, we just don't want to at all.
